More than 11,500 Scuba Dive Sites now available in a free iPhone Application

CAPE TOWN, South Africa (December 11, 2009) – Divetime.com, a community website for scuba divers, today announced the launch of a new iPhone Application, bringing their entire database of more than 11,500 scuba dive sites to the mobile platform for free. Divetime.com hosts the largest database of scuba diving sites and locations on the internet. Through user contributions and internal research the list of available dive spots continues to grow daily.

According to Willem Grobler, founder of Divetime.com, the application provides unique value. “No other application has such a vast database of dive sites around the world. Bringing this information to the iPhone’s mobile platform places a very valuable tool in the hands of scuba divers.”

The new application provides the user with an intuitive interface, leveraging the iPhone’s unique features and capabilities. The user will have access to the following functionality in the free application:

    • Nearby location search to find scuba dive sites in the user’s immediate vicinity, using the iPhone’s location awareness.

    • Google Maps integration with full zoom and pan controls and the ability to switch between Road, Satellite or Hybrid views at any time without losing current search results.

    • Map-based search to find dive sites anywhere in the world. The user places a pointer on the map and clicks to search in that location.

    • Detailed dive site information, including the name, description, type of dive, experience level required, maximum depth, average visibility, currents, access method and marine life.

    • Saved search locations to quickly and easily revisit and search again in a certain location.

    • Bookmarks, allowing a user to save favorite dive sites for offline browsing and future reference.

    • Custom user settings, for example the maximum search radius, number of results to return per search and measuring systems preference (metric and imperial).

The Divetime.com iPhone application was developed in-house. Enhancements over the coming months are currently being planned, and will bring more of the Divetime.com community functionality and interactivity to the iPhone.
